I’m nearly 3 weeks into my bi-daily neurodiversity posts, and it’s been an interesting journey.
In classic ADHD fashion, I just wrote the word ‘bi-daily’, assumed it wasn’t a word, and then went down a very brief path of figuring out if it was a word. And apparently it is (sort of)!
In any event, I’ve been posting on LinkedIn every second day, and the posts are getting a lot of traction.
Which is good - neurodiversity is not talked about much in the legal profession (especially in North America), and it’s time to talk about it a lot more.
While there have been plenty of great discussions in the comments, there have also been a lot of DMs.
While some of those DMs have been from people who aren’t neurodivergent, the vast majority have been from people who are.
And while none of messages have been particularly surprising (at least to me), that doesn’t mean they’ve been stories of joy.
Quite the opposite.
As I’ve tried to articulate in my posts, a lot of neurodivergent people are struggling badly in the legal profession.
Saying that is one thing - but seeing stories is another thing.
At Renno, we talk a lot about how most lawyers try to sell with ‘facts’, but the reality is that stories sell so much better.
So with that in mind, here are just a few examples of some of the messages that I’ve been receiving over the past few weeks:
If you want more and more stories, you can read the comments of the actual posts. They’re filled with examples from people who have gone through similar experiences.
We can do a lot better as a profession. And we most definitely need to!
